Join us for a place at our table and come home to Vineyard Cottages for local wine, a classic kiwi BBQ and meet a bunch of locals.
When Elle took over Vineyard Cottages in 2016 her vision was to have a destination that she could take people through showing the best of local produce and popping the tops of local wines.
That is exactly what A Place at our Table is all about.
On this full day away from the city we travel out to the heart of the original New Zealand wine country, Kumeu. It’s a short trip out of town in our luxury Mercedes Sprinter with our first stop being a visit to the local farm shop.
We begin with coffee and a classic kiwi morning slice and stock the shopping basket with local produce for the BBQ. On route to Vineyard Cottages we head out to the stunning Muriwai Beach where we take in the breathtaking views across the gannet colony and the legendary black sands.
Then it’s off for taste of local wines, beer and if you’re really keen gin and whisky which we meander around the property. You’ll visit the vines and hear how taking on a block with some run down vines and not a lot of time on your hand had Elle thinking outside the square with what to do. At Vineyard Cottages, there is fruit on the trees all year round so plenty of jams, chutneys, olive oil and pickles to enjoy while we tuck into some local cheeses and sourdough bread while the BBQ is lit and salads prepared.
Get stuck in and help in the kitchens or just enjoy a wind down and relax in the gorgeous surroundings.
Lunch is served on the deck and after we’ve enjoyed a taste of everything local it’s dessert time!
Head back to the city at a leisurely pace with plenty of opportunity to purchase gifts made locally if you fancy.
Depending on the time of year, you might like to help pick olives or plums or find out why the Vineyard Cottages pavlova is one of the best in Auckland!
This tour is perfect for those who really want to experience a taste of local, meet the locals and hear the history of not only the wine region but it’s significance to the rest of NZ wine.
